Hi Frank,  as George told you, this is a Distefania lauginigeri

Nice find !

:yay-smiley-1:

Thank you! In the last few weeks, I have been in touch with several experts who focus on crabs and that is their consensus too!

My specimen is currently being studied by the author who described Distefania Lauginigeri so if anything changes I'll be sure to let everyone know but for now, Distefania Lauginigeri appears to be a match.

Thank you to everyone who has helped (and is still helping) with my crab - this is one of my favorite finds!!

Yeah, I'm definitely glad I decided to ask for help on this one considering I looked at this thing for hours and came up with the stunning hypothesis of 'uhhhhhhh...what??' :)

Cool find.

@FossilDAWG

I got an update from Ron who described Distefania Lauginigeri and we now think this represents a new genus.

In the near future, this crab will be described and sent to it's new home at the New Jersey State Museum.

Thanks again for all the help!!

This is a great example of how the community of avocational collectors can help to advance the science of paleontology.  I'm very happy that you chose to follow up on this and place the specimen where it can be described and curated for posterity.  :dinothumb:When you send the crab on to the New Jersey State Museum, be sure to post an account of it in the Paleo Partners forum so you can collect your Paleo Partner badge. :1-SlapHands_zpsbb015b76:

Thanks Don! I absolutely will (I'll probably post everything together in the paleo partners section along with the study once it comes out).

Thanks again everyone! This is great!

Haha, I didn't think about that..how about....Frankosaurus Maximus!!

...you know what..that might not be the best idea; maybe they should just stick with giving me a mention in the article...
