In the last few weeks, I have been in touch with several experts who focus on crabs and that is their consensus too! My specimen is currently being studied by the author who described Distefania Lauginigeri so if anything changes I'll be sure to let everyone know but for now, Distefania Lauginigeri appears to be a match. Thank you to everyone who has helped (and is still helping) with my crab - this is one of my favorite finds!!

The Jersey Devil
Cool find. “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.” ― Mikhail Tal
frankh8147
@FossilDAWG I got an update from Ron who described Distefania Lauginigeri and we now think this represents a new genus. In the near future, this crab will be described and sent to it's new home at the New Jersey State Museum. Thanks again for all the help!!
FossilDAWG
This is a great example of how the community of avocational collectors can help to advance the science of paleontology. I'm very happy that you chose to follow up on this and place the specimen where it can be described and curated for posterity. When you send the crab on to the New Jersey State Museum, be sure to post an account of it in the Paleo Partners forum so you can collect your Paleo Partner badge.
