How to tell difference between smooth rock or bone fossils?

Found this rock. Looks similar to when fossil bones are polished. I doubt it is a bone but is there a good way of telling the difference?

Can't help with distinguishing between the two, but it doesn't look quite like bone to me. (Caveat: I am not a bone collector- grains of salt may need to be taken.)

I took the liberty of brightening and cropping your photos. (Which are quite good! :) )

Bone will have a more uniform pattern of cellular structure,  with a more dense area on the exterior portions.

Rocks that imitate bone will have a more random size and patterns (if any) and usually do not show any difference between internal and external structure.

The best way to be able to tell the difference is to look at the structures of bones. Magnification can help.
