TyBoy
A 3" Carcharodontosaurus Foot Claw is being offered for sale from the Kem Kem of Morocco by a pretty respected dealer. It looks pretty nice but is it identified correctly and repairs or restoration visible? Thank you.
Troodon
Interesting well just like we are clueless what Deltadromeus teeth look like we are equally clueless what Carcharodontosaurids claws look like from the Kem Kem. No associated sketal material has been found that has been published. However we have clues if we look at Carcharodontosaurids in other faunas like those in Argentina. Tyrannotitan is a Carch that we can try to do some comparisons with. You can see that the morphology is not even close to the one being offered, its oval, and not with a flat ventral surface. So its unlikely its one. The claw looks more like those seen in Spinosaurids however its missing the diagnostic dimples on the ventral surface. So with all those uncertainties its best described as Theropod indet. Nice claw.
Troodon
Forgot dont see any obvious repairs or resto. Here is a claw from my collection that I believe is more representative of a Carcharodontosaurid foot claw. But until we see scientific evidence its still a mystery
TyBoy
Wow glad I checked thank you. It does point out why you need to verfy dino specimens from Morocco.
