BLT
Hello, I would like to know if this is a type of fossil, or a discoloration on the rock. And if it is a fossil, what is it? I found it in my yard in middle Tennessee. Thanks.
ynot
The dark branching structures are mineral growths. They are called dendrites and are probably manganese. 3 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Will Rogers said: " Some of them didn't spring far enough." BLT
Thanks, @Herb! I have googled dentrites and found a definition for dentrites (crystal) with a picture that looks just like the branching structure on my rock. I learn something new each day I’m on here. BLT
After reading your initial reply, I immediately googled and scanned until I came across the Wikipedia definition. Since it had the exact information I was seeking, I was content with stopping there. Thank you again! @ynot
