hey everyone..

sorry I keep pestering you guys for theropod measurements - but this is one I can't find anywhere in the literature.. One of the specimens I'm using for my study is the AMNH 7223 Coelophysis; and I need measurements for the furcula of that specimen - Colbert's Coelophysis monograph isn't very helpful, and nor is the Nesbitt et al. 2009 paper on theropod furculae.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Took the opportunity to look at Colberts bulletin and there was no mention of a furcula which is very odd.  In looking at the 7223 skeletal block is it possible it was not present or located in a position that measurements could not be taked.  I also noticed that measurements of a couple of other bones were missing.

was the presence of a furcula in basal theropods known in the 80's?

Good point and probably not.

First report of a furcula in a Coelophysid might have been in this 2002 paper

Neat cladogram, @Troodon thanks for sharing. I'm a bit surprised as to seeing "S. kayentakatae" in it.. I thought Syntarsus was invalid?

It is but if you notice the '. ' in the S on that Clad it's questionable and I think better identified as Coelophysis kayentakatae.

Yeah - I also noticed the 'S'.. wonder why the authors didn't use Ckayentakatae instead :headscratch:

So that means that the genus Coelophysis actually had 3 species and lasted into the Early Jurassic?

Meanwhile, back of the ranch, Aunt Martha and Uncle Jim are digging furiously!

Tune in next week to see what they find.

You're too Young to remember the old "cliffhanger" shows.

They always ended an episode with....
