I'm about to just leave it in there. You're both right! I thought I'd lick it while I'm on a business trip but this snarge Crinoid just doesn't want to come out! hahaha

Well, according to my eye I say leave it in there.  That way you know it’s a fossil, not some plastic extrusion that came out of a mold. :)

As it is only a fragment, it probably isn't worth the effort. You're probably better off returning to the site and scanning for other pieces that have weathered out of the rock. That being said, if you are still insistent on freeing it from the matrix, something like an air scribe would probably do the trick if you're careful.

Of course you could use this as a practice piece for your air scribe, if you have one.
