Green Mill Run possible this week?

Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong section. But I have been to Green Mill Run once last year, and am looking to go this week. I am on vacation in North Carolina but a couple hours away. There has been quite a bit of rain which I know can make Green Mill Run unavailable to Fossil hunting. I could not find a way to determine what the water level might be like, and I don't know how fast the creek empties from water after rains. By any chance if anyone that lives in the area familiar with this location could give me a heads up if it's worth my drive there to Fossil hunt with my nine-year-old son and family that would be awesome. If not we might just make the drive and peek into the creek, but if it's not available we would rather go to the Natural History Museum in Raleigh I guess. Thank you very much for anyone that could help, I know it's short notice but if we get there I will certainly post a report!

I don't live too close to GMR, but I live about an hour east. The rain for the past week has been coming downing hard, and the water in front of my house is chocolate milk. Not to mention more rain for 10 days. I can almost guarantee that GMR won't be huntable, but we'll have to see I guess.

I just learned that there will be a forum trip to GMR this Sunday, the 5th. I will try to go and there will be other forum members there too. @sixgill pete can give you more info. I don't know if you will still be down here though if you are you should try and come that day.

It all depends on if it rains Friday and saturday.

behind the trailer, my desert

I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt

Thank you so much for the information everyone. Our only chance was Wednesday or Thursday, and Thursday looks to be like a lot of rain. Wasn't sure if the rain over the last couple days would be too much. Thank you everyone for your suggestions, we will decide tonight whether it's worth making the drive to peek into the creek tomorrow or not, but if we don't I will probably be moving back to this area and one year and look forward to meeting everyone and exploring the creek and other areas.

Well I drove over GMR at 8 am today and it is up and moving but it is clear and it is raining here in Greenville now. GOOD LUCK. George PS; if you don't get by this time you can always come by when you move back up this way.

Hello YOUNG MAN, hows it going? Hoping the rain holds off enough for it to go down by Sunday.

Thank you everyone, we did get to Green Mill Run today, and were able to Fossil hunt with no problem. The creek was up a bit but never over waist-high. The sand bars that usually stick out of water were about 6 in under water but not a problem digging or sifting. There was a flow but it was no problem being in the water at all. There was one other group there as well. We had pretty good luck for the two and a half hours we were able to dig, there were a couple of thunder showers that were close but didn't hit over head. Needless to say with the Thunder it was safe to get out of the water. I will post a report as I can put the pictures together in the next 24 hours. I hope the rains lay off the next couple days so you all can hunt on Sunday. Look forward to my next trip hopefully I can meet some of you.!
