Concretion or Fossil?

I would like to know whether or not this is a concretion? What is in the center? It is a middle Tennessee creek find.

I'm not from the area but I was just about to say it looks like a chert nodule. @ynot has the geology chops. 

 

It's beautiful.

From the appearance of the broken side. This indicates a solid chert nodule.

Could still have a coral hidden in it. Would need better pictures of the area in question.

@ynot, I’ve noticed the center appears to be a dull black in the pictures I posted. However, it is actually a lovely dark blue. (If that matters at all.)

Only matters to the aesthetic appearance of the rock.
