BLT
I would like to know whether or not this is a concretion? What is in the center? It is a middle Tennessee creek find.
ynot
This looks like a chert nodule (SiO2 concretion), the darker area is fresh exposure and the white has been exposed for a long time. Brett Breakin' Rocks
I'm not from the area but I was just about to say it looks like a chert nodule. @ynot has the geology chops. It's beautiful.
BLT
Thanks, @ynot, @Brett Breakin' Rocks! I like it because it reminds me of a macaroon!

Peat Burns
Others are probably right, but one other possibility is geodized horn coral?

ynot
Just now, Peat Burns said: How do we know that it was not or is not hollow? From the appearance of the broken side. This indicates a solid chert nodule. Could still have a coral hidden in it. Would need better pictures of the area in question. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." BLT
@ynot, I’ve noticed the center appears to be a dull black in the pictures I posted. However, it is actually a lovely dark blue. (If that matters at all.)
