Gastropods are doing so well lately!

Guess who's happy :D

I should show you my basement shelf sometime. It's covered with some very large Ecphora and shells along with a very expensive painting of a ship from Maryland. Had to have Ecphora (Maryland state fossil) around that that beautiful painting. :)

Here's my entry for the August IPFOTM contest :)

-Collected on 9th of July 2018

-Preparation began on the same day, and finished on 23rd of August 2018

-Associated remains of the cidarid Stereocidaris pistillum (Quenstedt 1852), a regular sea urchin

-Møns Klint Formation; upper part of Lower Maastrichtian (70 million years old)

-Collected at Møns Klint (island of Møn, Denmark)

Photo of the specimen taken once preparation was completed. Several partial spines are clearly visible in this. Scale bar measures approx. 50mm

Preparation of the specimen revealed a few articulated test ("shell") plates on the underside

Near those test plates, I also uncovered a single columnal element (part of the stem) of a Nielsenicrinus sp. - which happens to be one of the least common crinoids at Møns Klint. A nice little bonus :)

Here is a double header: a horn coral growing within a Syringopora  sp. coral colony. I found this silicified coral combo is a chunk of Pennsylvanian Naco Limestone found in the mountains of east central Arizona.  After dissolving the limestone in a 5% to 10% HCl acid solution, their true beauty was revealed.

Found: Aug. 8, 2018.

Eldredgeops rana.

Windom, Moscow formation.

Middle Devonian.

Livingston County, New York.

Size - 41 mm.

Found August 2016.

Prepped August 29, 2018.

My favorite trilobite is a classic species, Eldredgeops rana from the Middle Devonian of New York State. I've been collecting them from a number of different localities and formations in my area since I was a kid. I have found molts, babies, geriatrics, enrolled, multiples, and specimens with their original color patterns. Some localities I collect at, Eldredgeops are common and at other localities they are rare. The specimens from Livingston county tend to be bigger (some are downright huge at 4"), inflated, and in life position (like they are crawling off the matrix) when compared to well known NY Eldredgeops collecting sites. This 41mm (1.6") specimen was found a couple years ago in Livingston County and I intended to leave it unprepared to show how pretty they can be right out of the ground. I recently decided to have it prepped and sent the specimen to my friend Malcolm Thornley of Canada. Malcolm did a great job in bringing out the natural beauty of my bug and the molted pieces nearby that may be from this complete animal. Thank you, Mikeymig

I always want people to see my special finds in case they do not see my on going post- no need to vote for me.

Is this going to be like a beauty pageant, were the runner ups are eliminated and votes are for several or fewer contestants? Have we seen "hogging" awards in the past?

Please eliminate my Shark from this month's contest, since the message tools don't allow me to do it myself. I don't want anymore icons by my name, it appears selfish.

I just sent this message to Nimravis and thought it might be a good solution to the problem.

I for one would still like items presented in the thread to show "top notch" items found in the month, being voted on or not.

Sorry, I didnt read that in the rules. If I did I would have never posted. I thought I was having fun entering this contest. I like all the icons/awards I have won and I dont always win but I like playing when I can. Oh well.
