Ptychodus04
That looks problematic. Hollow fossils are hard to prep. 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

Being hollow doesn't make it impossible to prep, it just makes it more labor intensive. The trick is to fill the cavity with some very thin glue, a little at a time until you completely fill up the space. It takes a lot of glue and a long time but can be done. 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

DeeMoji
What kind of glue do you fill it with?
aeon.rocks
Legs and claws are often hollow. As Ptychodus said, fill it up with glue before you start to prep. Any fast thin liquid glue, like Loctite or similar cyanoacrylate, does the trick. Or if you need help prepping let know.

You want to make sure there's no air bubbles that don't get filled in. You're other option is to leave it as is and eventually, I'll wind up prepping it for you. 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

I don’t trust myself with glue that sets so fast, my hands are too big and clumsy. I tried to glue my “sad crab” and his bits don’t line up now. I think I’ll just let him live in his rock on my table for now.

RJB
Havent visited this thread for awhile. and yeah, hollow fossils are a pain in the you know what! Here is a lobster that was a nightmare cause it was hollow. Lots and lots of glue and then about 11 little places that needed some repair and acrylic work. It can be done. Just takes a lot more time. Good luck RB

Ptychodus04
Well, this prep is going to be “fun”. The concretion is hollow! I opened a hole beside the larger arm that is exposed and dumped about 1/4 cup of PVA into it and it started coming out a small hole in the other arm! I’m going to let all this plastic dry up before I mess with it any further. 2 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe

You might get to see a not so nice prep from my bench if this thing doesn’t play nice. I’m trying to determine whether or not to fill this thing up with plastic. I’m not sure where the carapace is yet. I sure hope it’s not what is hollow. Of course, if I fill it up and it is what’s hollow, the prep will be great. If it’s under the hollow, the prep will be a nightmare! 1 Regards, Kris Global Paleo Services, LLC https://globalpaleoservices.com http://instagram.com/globalpaleoservices http://instagram.com/kris.howe
