Shark teeth

I just bought 3 shark teeth from the gift shop in our local museum earlier today. No idea where they're from or if they're even fossils. But for $2.16 US each, not really a major issue if they aren't fossils. Tooth 1 is 1.5 inches long x 1.25 inches wide, tooth 2 is 1.75 inches long x 1.5 inches wide & tooth 3 is 1.5 inches long x just shy of 1.5 inches wide. Tooth 2 has a few hairs stuck to the back of the root area, so I guess we could maybe get DNA if they're fake. ;) Each has both front & back views. Looks like you can see part way through the enamel of tooth 1. Go easy on me if I got ripped off for $6.48

These are Moroccan shark teeth.

The first 2 are patched together from pieces.

The last one looks like a whole piece (not patched together).

So not too bad for less than $7.00?

Well, no shipping charges, no customs & part of it does go to support the museum, so yeah.. I'm happy. :D The other item I bought though.. that remains to be seen. Working on the pics now.

So what I'm finding on this shark is a 60 million year old mackerel shark that was apparently the grandfather of the Meg? Or did I find bad info?

If you adhere to the majority of the scientific community, mostly yes! They lived late Cretaceous to Eocene (though I’ve heard reports of younger) and probably evolved in a series of short-lived similar-looking chronospecies into Carcharocles megalodon Which some scientists are calling Otodus megalodon now. They come en masse from Moroccan deposits because of how heavily searched they are but are present many places. Cool teeth, and they can get pretty big.

Happy hunting,
