Fossilized bone section

I was in a stream bed near Killeen tx today when I found this. I thought it was a bone fragment from recent origins until i picked it up.

When I did I found it was clearly fossilized.

What the heck did I find?

Hi,

Kileen, Texas is Cretaceous in age,  and many marine invertebrate fossils are found there. I believe that what you have found is just a piece of modern bone. (But I could be wrong)

Hope this helps,

Daniel

Texture, weight, sound... Even the tongue test (not that I ever found that to be all telling). Experience.

The cross section is also being considered. I have butchered and cooked a bunch of different animals and I cant say it looks like any modern bone profile from commonly eaten animals. I would assume its a rib.. but certainly not from say, a cow.

The pictures are quite small and oddly fragmented, multiple singular full pictures would make it easier to identify as a fossil or modern bone.
