FOSSIL ID - large animal Vertebra?

My husband and Daughter found this piece along the banks of the Brazos River in Sugar Land (south West Houston) we have no idea if it’s fossil or just bone. Or what animal it came from - any help appreciated

Cool find. I seem to have trouble with ID's on Pleistocene material.

Well, we're dealing with the centrum from a mammal cervical vertebra.

Man it really reminds me of an alligator vert for some reason, of course it's far too large for that just speaking out loud, hope someone more experienced can identify for you, either way, you have an incredible fossil vertebra! :)

Verts can be difficult to ID even when complete.  Add some stream rolling and my ID confidence level drops.
