JurassicParkCarnotaurus
I recently purchased this Green River Knightia plate at an incredibly cheap price. I got it because of what I was pretty sure was some coprolite on the back. I am sure you know more about this stuff than I do- so was I right? Also is that bone infront of the fish? Thanks! daves64
Dunno about in front of the fish, but it looks like another spine & some ribs below it. Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
Tidgy's Dad
Not certain. Photos are a bit overlit. (like most of mine). @GeschWhat Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
ynot
Yes, both pieces on the back are fish coprolites. The piece in front of the fish looks like skull (fish) bones. JurassicParkCarnotaurus
Thanks guys! Here's a better image of the front. Do you think I should try exposing more of the bone in the front?
Fossildude19
I agree with Tony, it is a piece of an operculum or suboperculum, either from the right side of the fish pictured, or a different fish. sseth
I agree with the other posts. This fish is from our "mud layer" which is actually a volcanic ash mortality layer located 37 1/2 inches from the bottom of our quarry. The measurement will vary slightly from quarry to quarry but it will be similar. GeschWhat
It warms my heart to know you purchased a fish plate because there was a coprolite on the back. I thought I was the only one who did that. Congrats, you are a proud poo papa! Seth Thanks for the info- it didn’t really look like an 18 inch layer plate to me. 51 minutes ago, GeschWhat said: It warms my heart to know you purchased a fish plate because there was a coprolite on the back.
