Svet
Hi guys, Recently I purchased my first fossil and was wondering if it's a fake as it was listed on the auction site as coming from Morocco and was fairly preserved and cheap as compared to others. It's a 3.3" Drotops Megalomanicus and has a crack going through the cephalon and the matrix all the way. I don't see any reasons to believe it was glued to the matrix and eyes have details as shown. Don't see many scratches so it's probably painted Thanks! Edited August 15, 2018 by Svet
Brett Breakin' Rocks
The prep job on that looks great .. no dings or scratches or anything. Looks great ! Nice acquisition .... Cheers, Brett PS. I don't see any shenanigans but there are others on the site with a keen eye. In my opinion when you see damage like that running through the fossil it is a good day.
Tidgy's Dad
Yup, a good day. The break through the middle is how they found where the fossil was, they then glued it back together and began the prep. It may possibly have been darkened with shoe polish, but I don't think so. In my opinion this is a lovely trilobite, the eyes are definitely real and great. 2 Life's Good! Tortoise Friend.
Brett Breakin' Rocks
Not all of those Moroccan beauties coming out of the Tuscon gem and mineral show are fake .. the preservation and prep on your trilo is very similar to what I have tried to purchase in the past at the show. Just took a little hunting... so to speak.
