Brianmurray
Hi Guys This could be a wild goose chase. I found this a month or so ago on a local lakeshore but it could be from anywhere as the lake is a man-made water reservoir structure and I'm sure stone was brought in from other places. It could just be geological but, honestly, the shape is incredible, the curves, the grooves etc. Just wondering if it could actually be a fossil? Not necessarily a horse-related item but perhaps a marine creature or something similar.
Fossildude19
Welcome to the Forum. From this map, it looks like Wicklow is largely Ordovician aged sediments. This is just a guess, but the only thing I could think of that would be similar would be broken and eroded a section of an Orthocone cephalopod, with the smaller half circle being part of the siphuncle. Wait around for some other opinions. I may be totally off base, and it could be a sponge or stromatolite, or something equally arcane and obscure to me. 1 Tim - VETERAN SHALE SPLITTER VFOTM --- APRIL - 2015 __________________________________________________ "In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."
