Traviscounty
I think this is tusk, but I'm not sure from what? Is there a way to tell? It's from the Texas coast.
JohnJ
Looks like it. The end grain is very distinctive on ivory...can't see it. The human mind has the ability to believe anything is true. - JJ

Sooooo, look for "something bigger" in that area! Good luck!
Traviscounty
Looks like it. The end grain is very distinctive on ivory...can't see it. It's a very fine criss-cross pattern on the end. I'll see if I can get a pic.
JohnJ
It's a very fine criss-cross pattern on the end. I'll see if I can get a pic. That's what you want to see! You now own a fragment of Columbian mammoth tusk (this is the most likely candidate for the formation and location it came from). Traviscounty
It's a really cool find, but I did not find it. (don't want to misrepresent) I just wanted to know more about it. Steve71 found it, and gave it to me. He gave me some really cool stuff, and showed me around to a couple of spots. (good host) I really want to explore the coastal area more. Hopefully I can go find a whole one myself!
lawooten
I would place a bet on it being a tusk. The best days are spent collecting fossils
