Bronzviking
Hello again, I found this small reptile-like piece on the beach in SW Florida. Pics show both sides. One side looks like turtle shell so my guess would be a turtle scute. What do you think?
Bronzviking
Hey guys, can you ID this one that got no response please? @caldigger @Harry Pristis @Shellseeker
ynot
Could be a piece of turtle shell. Not sure. Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Shellseeker
It does not "feel" like turtle, with rather complex patterns on BOTH sides... and having found it on the beach, you bring in many more possibilities , primarily fish and marine mammals.. I have not previously seen a fossil that has the pattern on your 1st photo. Hopefully , other TFF members have... Scylla
I would go with reptile like turtle, but that texture doesn't look like any turtle I have found. Part of a fish skull maybe? Those pits look like the surface of a crocodile snout a little.
Bronzviking
I cropped and rotated the photo. Does this help any? @caldigger @Harry Pristis @Shellseeker
Harry Pristis
It reminds me of 'gator mandible. But, that's just an impression, not an ID. 1 http://pristis.wix.com/the-demijohn-page What seest thou else In the dark backward and abysm of time? ---Shakespeare, The Tempest
Crocophile
I agree with Harry Pristis. This appears to be a fragment of a crocodylomorph's cranium or mandible, and given the location, probably of an alligator Edited May 11, 2020 by Crocophile Clarity.
