I don't think what you have is soft shell

@Peat Burns You got the closest call. UF ID believes it Pleural from the Chelydra family but dont believe it to be serpentina. So we shall call her Chelydra Sp. or maybe Karl. lol

That's great! Kudos to you for being persistent and following up on the identity of your find with UF.  One difference I noted between C. serpentina and your specimen is that mine has this "notch" on the dorsal side of the pleurals and yours doesn't, so it makes sense that it appears to be a different species of Chelydra.  Thanks for letting us know the verdict.:)
