Fossil identification from Comox valley

Hi folks, I found these two fragments on the Puntledge River in Courtenay, British Columbia, Canada. These are from shale rock of Upper Cretaceous age.

I think the one on the right might be a heteromorph ammonite and but I have no idea on the left one. Perhaps a thick shell? The pieces are about 5cm in length in the photo.

I would really appreciate any ideas on what type of fossils these are.

Cheers,

Martin

I think the one on the right is a heteromorph, but it could be orthocones also.

The left one looks like a chert nodule. The hollow area could be a fossil, but I am unsure of that. Close ups of that area may help.

The left one looks like it was split and cross sectioned whatever may be there.

Agree it looks like chert.

The specimen on the left is a fragmented inoceramid bivalve in a broken  carbonate nodule.  The fibrous nature of the shell is characteristic of inoceramids.  The one on the right is an impression of a heteromorph ammonite, most likely Glyptoxoceras subcompressum.

Thanks very much FossilDAWG for your description. That makes a lot of sense and I have subsequently found more in the river beds since.

Thanks also, ynot and Fossildude19!
