"In addition, we are pleased to know that the annex building and the Botanical Garden were not reached (by the fire), guaranteeing the preservation of the invertebrate collection, conservation and restoration laboratory, herbarium collection, central library and most of the collection of vertebrates."

Recent update: 80% of the skull of "Luzia," the oldest recovered human remains in Latin America, has been retrieved from the museum debris. Its storage in a metal box protected much of it from fire damage.
