Max-fossils
First one I would say is a piece of ray mouth plate (one of the corners). Second one I have no clue whatsoever. Providing a better picture of the second one (take it on a flat surface, with a size scale, and adequate lighting, and make sure that the specimen is in focus) would probably be good. Also, giving a more precise location than NC might be useful too. 2 Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. sixgill pete
The first one is part of a ray tooth. Aetobatus sp. most likely. The second one I do believe is fish and is probably recent. 2 Bulldozers and dirt Bulldozers and dirt behind the trailer, my desert Them red clay piles are heaven on earth I get my rocks off, bulldozers and dirt Patterson Hood; Drive-By Truckers May 2016 May 2012 Aug 2013, May 2016, Apr 2020 Oct 2022
RickNC
I think the second item is fish and is modern most likely.
FossilDAWG
The second pair of specimens are fish opercula (Gill covers). I don't recognize the species right off but they should be identifiable. I don't know why people seem so sure they are modern. Don

Perhaps because the preservation here is almost too good to be true for such a delicate item. How old would this be?
