LiamL
Hello, A recent find of ours. I've been told by someone knowledgeable in this area that it's a Disarticulated lower Ichthyosaur jaw ( the long bones on the back) It's been scavenged after death so everything is scattered. On the otherside are other bones, shells and what look to be 5 teeth. Other Side with Teeth Close up of what look to be teeth, I've circled them in red. LiamL
Do you guys think it's a lower jaw and scattered teeth also? This is all as found, and not been prepped yet. Cheers 1 Yorkshire Coast Fossil Hunter
ynot
Can not help with the question. Just wanted to say- nice piece. Congratulations on the find! 1 Darwin said: " Man sprang from monkeys." Anomotodon
Most of the things you circled look more like bone bits, I think rib sections. Only the top circled item on this pic looks like an ichthyosaur tooth. Although a long bone on the right looks a lot like a claw, more detailed pictures of it, other items and the potential tooth will definitely assist with the ID. 1 The Tooth Fairy
jpc
lower jaws are best IDed by their cross section, as they are fairly rib-like in ichthyosaurs. Can you show us a photo of the edges of the rock? Cool find anyway.

jpc
they all look round or subround except that one closest to the base of your thumb. That one might be a jaw piece... the cross section looks half moonish. Otherwise all I see from 4000 (?) miles away is ribs.
JohnBrewer
Looks like an ichthy jaw to me. It's certainly a busy rock! 1 John Map of UK fossil sites
LiamL
We got down to the beach early the morning we found it. I was moaning because i wanted to go when the tide was right out, to access the further end of the beach. When we got down we were one of the first people down and my mum picked this up. It's her first good find, and probably is our best so far! Very glad we went so early because it was right at the base of the cliff where everyone looks, would have been taken by the first collector who walks by. 1 Yorkshire Coast Fossil Hunter
Mike from North Queensland
Looks like ichthyosaur material to me, mostly rib material especially looking at the last photo end view and rear of the specimen. The bone in the center fits well to the general morphology of one of the several bones that make up there jaws, with that half moon showing on the end. unsure about the teeth as would need better photos or more of the pieces exposed. Nice find. Mike
