Mtskinner
I found this tooth last week in the blufftown formation that runs through South Alabama. It was found on the same bar as the fully rooted Xiphactinus tooth I posted a couple of weeks ago. To me, it appears to be another tooth with a partial root but I’m unsure. It has characteristics of both Xiphactinus audax and vetus so that’s what has me so puzzled. It’s just over 1.25 inches long and a .25 inches wide. Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated!
SerratedTeeth
Looks like it could maybe be Enchodus ferox... I’ve never found or seen one with the root but that’s an awesome find!
Carl
I think it's definitely not Enchodus but Xiphactinus seems like a good bet.
The Jersey Devil
Interesting tooth. It is almost confusing as to which side is the root or crown - one side looks like a vetus crown and the other looks like an audax crown. But I’d say it is a vetus and in the first pic the crown is on the bottom and the root on top. 1 “You must take your opponent into a deep dark forest where 2+2=5, and the path leading out is only wide enough for one.” ― Mikhail Tal
