No it's a replica, the original piece lies in the Teylers Museum in the Netherlands. :)

I know a British paleoartist who creates museum quality replica fossils. I'll send you a PM with the link to his website. :)

ziggy, would you mind sending me the link in a pm also? :)

Yeah sure no problem!

He has quite a lot of nice pieces and offers a selection of claw and skull replica's and life sized skeletons. :)

Got a new fossil in my mailbox today, something I wanted for quite a long time to add to my Kem Kem collection!
A quadrate bone from a Mawsonia lavocati, the famous giant coelocanth that lived along side Spinosaurus, found in the Kem Kem beds of Morocco (95 million years old)

As many who are following this topic probably are already aware is that the fossil location that the Kem Kem beds are the fossil location that interest me the most and that I am trying to make a Kem Kem display with as many different species as I can. So I was really happy to get my hands on the piece as Mawsonia fossils aren't really common on the market.

I think I go in March, my girlfriend lives only an hour drive away, so I probably combine it with a Fossil fair on saturday and the museum on Sunday! :)

Still waiting for that Spino skull... :ninja: ;)

Haha me too!
I got an update a few days ago that the Spinosaurus skull is cast, and that the only thing left to do is to paint it.
So I kinda expect halfway february :)

But as a sneak peak, this is one that's being made for me :)

  • 2 weeks later...

While waiting for the Spinosaurus skull and a whole lot of other things, I ordered a few fossils in the meantime to ease the wait! :)

154962024886049387.jpg.0af2667e2ab8b4940b6aad5e0267106f.jpg

My first "zwerfsteen" fossil with the imprints of crinoïds found in Lathum, The Netherlands but it originates from Sauerland in Germany (400 million years  old)
These fossils are quite common in the Netherlands as they were transported with glacial movements during the Ice Age.

A Parotodus benedeni tooth from Hoevenen in Belgium

5c5d564e1c87c_154962024886049387(2).jpg.d0239b73d8b25a6347b244c5e49a243a.jpg

Very rare desert roses found in Roekeberg, Hessen in Germany

5c5d564cb104d_154962024886049387(1).jpg.a23adc0f6e1f4ffea01fd630a382d78b.jpg

So the things I am still waiting for are the life sized Spinosaurus skull replica, a Psittacosaurus mounted skeleton replica, a Bambiraptor skull replica & a Deinonychus claw replica!
But my birthday is also coming up next week, so I probably can expect some as presents as well! :)

Yes I know the owner he a really nice guy. He lives in the next village to me. Good replicas indeed cast from his own specimens . He gave me years ago an complete skeleton of all the moulds that had gone wrong and not come out right. He thought it was better than binning them. It took me about a month to clean , paint and mount the creature but it was worth it. I hope yours comes soon.

@ziggycardon Beautiful collection!

I just had a question about your shelves. Do you have to clean them much to get rid of dust or any other dirt because I was thinking of getting some similar shelves.

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks,

Well, most of them were placed back in october and they were still pretty dust free until a week of two ago, I was actually planning to dust them tomorrow. :)
But I am using the same shelves for a few years now in my living room as book cases and the showcase a few of my movie props and I must say they are a delight when it comes to cleaning. You can barely see dust on it due to the white color, so a small layer of dust barely shows unless you whipe with your finger, and due to the material they are made of they are very easy to clean and maintain. :)
I really recommend them!

Although I also have no experience when it comes to mounting but I ordered the easy to mount version, so I hope I can pull it off and otherwise I call in the help of my girlfriend, she usually is a lot better than me when it comes to tinkering with things :)

Got some new fossils from my girlfriend for my birthday today!

A beautiful starfish (Ophiura sp.) from Kataoua Formation in M'ssici, Morocco from the Ordovicium (460 million years old)

A schrimp (Carpopenaeus sp.) from Haqel in Lebanon from the Cretaceous (The ID card says it's 75 million years old, but I believe I've read all Haqel fossil are between 100 and 94 million years old)

Today I received this awesome Tyrannosaurus rex hand claw replica as a present from the paleoartist where I buy most of my replica fossils!
It was a little thank you gift for being a regular costumer and for all the good reviews I left, so I am very happy :)

I plan on building a small Hell Creek display around these pieces, with some genuine teeth of Edmontosaurus, Triceratops & Nannotyrannus and some fossils of Lepisosteus, Borealosuchus, etc...

Still waiting for that Spino skull... :ninja: ;)

Today I got a message that the skull is finished and ready for shipping tomorrow and that I can probably expect to arrive in the next two weeks. :)
I also got these two photo's of the skull, so I am very eager for it to arrive :)

For anyone wondering, the replica is a breathtaking 1,80 meters long, which is longer than I am tall... :D
