Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here and wager you are either single or married to the most understanding person on earth!  :hearty-laugh:

VERY impressive, Ziggy!  I, for one, enjoy not only your collection but your enthusiasm as well!  :dinothumb:

Thank you, I really do intent to make a museum worthy display room! :)
And hahaha, currently in a relationship, just not yet living together. Luckily she kinda shares the same interest, only not to the same massive extent as I do ;)

So, minor update on the room, moved most of the terraria and aquaria to the new terrarium room, only a few more to go in the upcoming week.
I haven't posted a picture of the room that will become the fossil room, so here is a picture of the room. It's still very messy, there are still a few terraria & aquaria and it really needs a repaint (so don't mind the finding nemo's on the wall).

But yeah, this is it:

So obviously, there is still a bit of moving, a lot of cleaning an a paint job to go!
At the window is where my desk will be placed, which I play to use for prepping when I go hunting my self, for taking photo's of my fossils, for reading and in time I hope to place a professional microscope on so I can explore the realm of micro fossils.
On the right of the desk I will place an aquarium on a cabinet with my moray eel (Gymnothorax tile).
On the left of the desk I will place 2 showcases.
And on both the left and right walls I will place open cubic cabinets (which I posted a few posts back) to display my collection.
On the left wall I also intent to add a life size wall mount replica of a Spinosaurus skull.

153764441923082306.jpg.306ba644f9e274b4231f3b510f580fe8.jpg

Only the aquarium with my green bichir (Polypterus retropinnis) will remain, allthough I am going to redo the cabinet and hope to add a 5 compartiment terrarium in it to house some invertebrates (Hissing cockroaches (Princisia vanwearebecki), A giant Vinegaroon (Mastigoproctus giganteus), A whip spider (Daman variegatus), My African Giant Milipede (Archispirostreptus gigas) and my asian forest scorpion (Heterometrus cyaneus))
Above the aquarium I plan to add a replica Ichtyosaurus breviceps panel.

I hope to have it empty next week, but at least now there is a small sneak peek on the room ;)

For the rest I haven't been up to much, only playing Jurassic World Evolution the last few days, building my own dinosaur parks! ;)
The reason why I was a bit quiet on this forum ;)

  • 2 weeks later...

Started painting in the fossil room today!
The room is almost entirely empty, only 3 terrariums still have to be moved, but I have to wait on a helping hand to carry them down 2 floors.

But yes, it is starting to look like something! Going to need to paint a few layers but I hope to have it finished before I go visit my girlfriend in Finland in two weeks.

In those two weeks I also hope to clean the entire room and clean the aquarium of the Polypterus and to make a new cabinet or something for it.

I also bought the first piece of furniture for the room last week, a low table which I will use as a stand for the moray eel aquarium.

I also ordered some new fossils, minerals and a meteorite which should arrived next week! They will obviously be posted here.

Can one ever be a 100 % sure when he buys a fossil?
The tooth was listed as:

"Horse tooth from Lathum, The Netherlands. The fossil originates from Pleistocene and Holocene deposits."
The webshop I bought it from funds a dutch paleontological community similar to this forum, so especially the finds from the Netherlands itself are found by amateur fossilhunters like the people here on this forum and they are also ID'd by them.

So I kinda take their word for it, but then again, wrong ID's can always be made. In that case it could be a tooth from a Bos taurus, Bison priscus or some species of deer as fossils of those species can also be found in Lathum.

But here are some photo's from different angles for some proper identification.

Hi,

Thanks for new pics. For me not a horse (I made a mistake on my previous message), and not not a deer either because too big for that one.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just returned from Finland today and I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived home.

Due to the problems I faced while trying to paint the room (after 6 layers the old paint still coming through) my parents decided to help me a little hand while I was gone and they place wallpaper at the walls and added a few layers of paint over it.
So the fossil room is fully painted now and ready to be decorated!

5bcdbeca0b2e0_154020122828985778(26).jpg.dbe101bd094133abbb503666613e9ab8.jpg

5bcdbecd527c4_154020122828985778(28).jpg.188b80b3e3fe161fc3744af0f0fb479b.jpg5bcdbece69f4d_154020122828985778(29).jpg.1452d2724a4a402563e8b90822cb8023.jpg

So I might get a few cabinets today so I can start to decorate room today, but might also be for the coming days.
So yeah, only the bearded dragon terrarium have to be moved down.
Next monday I will clean the aquarium of this guy an try to make a new cabinet for it

5bcdbed0a54d3_154020122828985778(30).jpg.6efa7316e5addc17d95ec5d0cff4a5c9.jpg
I will also move the aquarium of my moray eel up to the fossil room.
And I will clean up the room entirely when that done.
Might also add some curtains next week :)

I try to have the room finished by 9 or 10 november, in time for the Paleotime fossil fair.

For the rest I got this vial with Baltic amber from Finland, also found some quartz but that's still in Finland with my girlfriend.

5bcdbed201a4f_154020122828985778(31).jpg.9b4d2a51d1bc390b2b49255c821f1206.jpg

Luckily I didn't spend much money in Finland so I ordered a few more fossils which should arrive in the next few weeks!
I ordered a Baryonyx replica claw, a Tyrannosaurus rex tooth replica and a stunning Archaeopteryx replica of the Berlin specimen.
And then I ordered some genuine fossils as well, an Eryops tooth, Mycterosaurus jaw fragments and an composite Apachesaurus tail.

And I decided to go to Ikea today with the still available budget that I had and I got a few things I needed to decorate the room. :D

Got 5 KALLAX cabinets of which I have already placed 4 at the moment and I also installed the cabinet which will be the stand for my moray eel aquarium.
And in the next few weeks I will probably buy a desk for by the window, 2 showcases, a small archive cabinet on wheels for smaller fossils and 2 more KALLAX cabinets for on the oposite side of the room.

I temporary placed a few of my fossils to get a feeling of how it will look like when finished.
It's only a sneak peak, not the eventual result, need more display boxes and stands to get the final result.
Although I might probably add my Prognathodon jaw in the next two days on it's permanent spot!

And today I moved my Prognathodon jaw to the fossil room for display!
Although I think I am going to eventually move it to the opposite side of the room once the other side is decorated, but for now it will do! :)

Ordered quite a lot of stuff last weekend and today the first items arrived!
They are fossils from the Triassic & Permian, both time periods that I am very interested in but that I have very little fossils of to date and that's really something I hope to change!
Really want to built a bigger collection around these 2 time periods, especially since I am getting more and more interested in micropaleontology as well!
But so here are the newest additions to my collection:

154048911255819108.jpg.da8404c20874618e7c81478361e2344e.jpg

An Apachesaurus tail (close relative of the giant amphibian Koskinonodon), found in the Bull Canyon Formation, San Miguel County, New Mexico in the USA, 227 - 208 million years old

2 Eryops megacephalus teeth found in the Wellington Garbar Complex, Waurika, Oklahoma in the USA, 299 - 278 million years old

6 Mycterosaurus longiceps jaw fragments found in Richards Spur in Oklahoma in the USA, 295 - 285 million years old an my first Synapsid fossil!

Nice collection you got there Ziggy, but like you said, you live in Belgium and would like to go on your own fossil hunts. There are plenty of great locations to go for a fossil hunt If you don’t mind to drive a few kilometers. My best advice is to get involved in a local geology club, they organize field trips every month.

Here are a few of the Belgian clubs:

BVP, Hona, Lithos, Nautilus Gent, and of course just over the border in the Netherlands you got the NGV clubs in different regions.

You can always send me a pm if you like extra info on the geology in our area and the fossil hunting sites.

Thank you :)
I was planning on informing myself at paleotime with some clubs, I am sure a few will be present :)
Once my girlfriend returns from Finland in december we wanted to start to go fossil hunting, we probably wanted to start in Catzand looking for some shark teeth but my goal is indeed to get acquainted with a fossil club to go on more adventurous digs in quarries and such.
But thank you again for the information, you cabn definiatly expect a PM after Paleotime with some questions :)

Some more progress on the fossil room!
The entire room is finally cleaned and emptied as the last terrarium moved to the reptile room.
And the moray eel (Gymnothorax tile) finally got his place in the room, next to where my desk is coming.

And now the room is emptied and I have space to work on the other wall, I mounted the last of the Ikea cabinets I bought a week ago.
So on the left side of the cabinet I will place 2 more of the same cabinets, it's also were I plan on moving the Prognathodon jaw to.

On the right side of the cabinet I will place 2 showcases.
And above the cabinets is where I plan to hang a life sized spinosaurus replica skull.

And today I got an early Christmas present, a replica Iguanodon thumb spike!
The original was found in Cuckfield, Sussex, UK and is currently on display in the Natural History Museum in London.

Progress on the Fossil Room, almost finished!
Yesterday I placed the 2 showcases to the fossil room and I have most the rest of my collection to the room, so now my entire fossil collection resides there.
Here are some photos of the showcases:

In 10 days the room will be finished!
Then I will get the last 2 cabinets, the desk, a small archive cabinet and lighting for the showcases.
Then the room is finished  :)

@ziggycardon Love the progress! Looks h professional. :dinothumb: Having a fossil room / office is so cool

Thank you, I am still amazed myself with the transformation from a messy reptile room to this beautifull museum room :)
Normally before the 10th of december it will be fully decorated, just have to wait for my Christmas bonus, I might even order a life sized Spinosaurus skull replica with what I have left :)

I am currently also waiting for two more orders I've placed!
One with some amazing replica's and one with a load of display and a few genuine fossils!
And in the course of the month I will order a life sized spinosaurus skull wall mount to display along side my Kemkem fossils and I will probably order a few more fossils from different sellers! :)
So expect some more updates in the next few months! :)
