A block with a Mosasaur tooth found in the Ouled Abdoun Basin, Khouribga, Morocco (Cretaceous, 70 mya)

While it is a nice tooth I actually bough this piece to dissolve the matrix to look for some cool other fossils and micro's.
I once had another block from Khourigba with 2 rooted Igdamanosaurus teeth with after some prepping yielded 2 macro shark teeth, multiple fish verts, 1 mosasaur tooth, 1 Enchodus tooth and a couple of coprolites.
And because this block was cheap and showed some great potenial with some fish verts and coprolites visable I thought it would be fun to see what else could be in there.

Hi Ziggy! Awesome to read and scroll trough this topic and see your collection, it looks amazing! The topic title definitely stands its ground on the 'growing' part :dinothumb:
Im looking forward to this Mosasaur with Matrix to see what else is perhaps buried inside!

Cheers,

Egon

I must say this is a very impressive collection!  If I had an 1/8 of what you have I would be a happy camper. :tiphat:

Thank you, I must say I am indeed very proud on the collection I managed to cumalate in quite a short time :)

Nice additions, of course.

Very glad to see a brachiopod in there. :brachiopod:

Love the Cooksonia too. :b_love1:

Thank you!

I had a feeling you would like the brachiopod, I love it too ;)

I am hoping to get some more nice specimens in the future.

Would love to get a giant specimen one, I've been in awe ever since I saw a giant Gigantoproductus giganteus in the NHM of Brussels.

Wow! Very nice specimens! I have no idea where you got these from, as I too have been looking to add some to my collection, yet haven't been able to find any. Excellent addition to your collection, sir, and a great find :tiphat:

Thank you, I am beyond happy as well as they stood on my wishlist for years now. :)

But you might be in luck as well, as I only intended to keep one for myself, I am just posting the other 2 in the sales section of the forum :)

Yes I did believe it to be a clever title for the topic indeed ;)

I currently still sorting out all the teeth from Cadzand, will probably take a week or more. After that I do intent to tackle to Mosasaur block :)

  • 2 months later...

I've been a wee bit absent these past month on the forum but luckily the same isn't true for my fossil collection as I managed to get some cool new stuff these past months which I am eager to share with you lot :)

I finally "completed" my proboscidean collection (which means I reached my goal of getting the 9 species on my wish list)

A piece of American Mastodon jaw with a partial molar found in Florida, USA (Pleistocene)

imageedit_1_4457251986.jpg.18ccec48bc247d8f0175c64528a00ef7.jpg

I also bought this nice looking molar which was listed as Kubanochoerus gigas, but I am quite convinced it is in fact a juvenile proboscidean molar belonging to one of the many Gomphothere species that can be found in Tongxin, Ningxia, China (Miocene, 11 mya)

The items include lots of fossils (mainly ammonites) from the Turonian & Cenomanian from Cap Blanc Nez, as well as a box with fossils from the Gault Clay from Cap Blanc Nez, some ammonites from Cap Gris Nez, a box full of fossils from Ault, lot's of Devonian material from Lompret, some Echinoids from Lixhe and much much more.
I am still going through many of the boxes but I'll post some of it here today :)

I also went hunting in Lompret myself in october, will make a topic about that hunt as well, I've been a bit behind with my hunting topics.

And while these don't look like much they are quite remarkable and rare.
They are bone fragments from Placoderm fish (could even be Dunkleosteus) found in Lompret, Belgium (382 - 372 mya)
I can't thank @Manticocerasman enough for parting with these, I really treasure them :)

That's a mighty fine croc tooth! I know I I recently managed to acquire quite a nice Dakosaurus sp. from Cap Gris Nez myself, but I wouldn't mind adding a tooth this quality to my collection still! Wherever did you find it? :o

Got it from one of the well known uk fossil stores, glad I bought it as soon as I saw it. I was just uploaded an hour earlier and knowing how fast such items sell on that shop I am glad I did not hesitate. :)

Hi Ziggy, quite a collection there! Very nice! Are you a Limburger ;)?  I am quite new to the forum. Exiting place to spend a gloomy sunday afternoon. I live pretty close to the Balegem/Oosterzele site where one of your fossil tooth were found. Unfortunately the gravel pits are used as dumpsters since a few years... A true shame.

Kind regards and greetings from Heusden (Destelbergen).

Yes I am indeed from Limburg ;)

It's a real loss of a great fossil location, I have always found the preservation of the Oosterzele shark teeth quite amazing, would have loved to go for a hunt if it still was accessable. :)

Nummocalcar cirroides found in the Gault Clay of CBN.
But I read somewhere that these are probably Cenomanian in age instead of Albian and that they rolled from the Cenomanian layers into the Albian clay hence the different preservation. Not entirely sure if that's true though.

And I have also started to go through a bucket full of material from the Tielt Formation, Egem, Belgium (Eocene, Ypresian, 53 mya).
A location of world renown regarding shark teeth but long closed unfortunately. I am all the more gratefull to @Natalie81 and @Manticocerasman for giving me the oportunity of giving me unprepped material to go through from this location!

While I haven't starting prepping the material (I am waiting for spring weather to arrive)
I did manage to find the first shark teeth by just going through the material for a peek

Great collection, Ziggy, you do have some beautiful pieces. :)

Sorry, can't help with the brachiopod other than to say it's a rhynchonellid.
