Help...is this even a fossil?

Any info on what this might be, or ideas for further research. Acquired from person in Texas who had no information on where it was found.     The reddish brown area and paler surround are a totally different material than the main part, and the 2 smaller protrusions look similar to bone matrix, if that''s the correct term. Thanks for any input.

PS: After adding 2 pics, I deleted them, but when trying to upload new picture, pop up says I am only allowed 3.9m, and will not let me add another pic.  (I may not be smart enough to use this forum...)

fileYou can also choose to click on the Arrow up and left of the window to turn to the previous page and then come back. But to begin with, try to crop them, they'll be less heavy files and it should work.

This looks like a piece of stream tumbled limestone with some chert nodules.

Not seeing any fossils.

Matrix is the surrounding rock that holds a fossil (or nodule).

Sorry, forgot to add a ruler to the pics. Measures approximately 8" in length, 6"wide and 3" at highest point. Used 'matrix' wrong, was wanting to describe inner honeycomb like structure inside bone.

Thanks again.

Not sure what that is called either.

Not seeing any bone structure, but some well lit close up pictures of the nodule may show some (and change My opinion.)

I'm also wondering, what could be the spongy structure of the inclusions?

Are they sponges? :)

I also thought sponge, but do not know them well enough to make the call.

They looks like that, for me, but also I'm not an expert in sponges. :)

Maybe there are also boerosional patters, borings. That may lead to the marine sediments.

Might that be something in the realm of clionaid sponge borings?

The structure may be similar.

This is really sponge-like, probably borings, i agree with that.
