Gastropod or Cephalopod?

Found this (Needmore Formation) at Lost River Site near Wardensville, WV. Size is 40mm, 1.5 inches. Anyone know what this might be? Thank you.

Looks like an ammonite to Me.

Wait for others to be more specific.

Can We see a picture of the whole rock?

Needmore Shale is Middle Devonian, so no ammonites.  

Looks like a gastropod to me.

Maybe something like Naticonema lineata, or Glyptotomaria capillaria.

I think it is a gastropod, but I can't conjure up a specific name at the moment.  The ornament (ribs and striations) is unlike any Needmore (or equivalent Hamilton group) cephalopod I am familiar with.  On the other hand the ornament is typical of many gastropods.

I know it's a bit curly for a sponge. A better photo might help to see what look like ridges running perpendicular to growth direction. I can see why @ynot thought it might be ammonite.

I'll go along with Tim & Don. Almost 100% certain that it's a gastropod. It sure would help if you could prep it out of the matrix some more so that we could view the rest of it.
