Campanian Catch

I’ve been traveling out of state a bit lately and tending to some personal things.  Meanwhile, back in Southerly-Centralish Texas, I managed a quick look at some Campanian exposures.  Some finds were common, some rare, all cherished.  I’ve attached a few pics, starting with common stuff.

A new echinoid for my collection, possibly Holectypus hondoensis, found on a random split.  1/2” either way and I would have missed it.  Smaller than a dime.  Only prep so far was a wet tooth brush.

Really nice! :)

The Neithea has come out really well, the fish is a super find and considering it's just been toothbrushed, the echinoid is beautiful!

Great finds! Is this from the Austin Group?

No, sir.  Campanian overlies the Austin Grp.

Thanks! Just curious because the matrix reminded me of the Austin Grp. and because Kennedy et al. 2008 reports the Hutchins formation in the Austin Grp. ranging into the lowermost Campanian in Waxahachie and other areas.

Based on ammonites present, I think many sections of Austin that I've visited are missing Campanian zones.

Ah, Campanian, no rudists? ;)

Thanks for sharing, the echinoid is really sweet and well worth for FOTM!

Very cool! Gotta love that perfect little echinoid. The Neithea is also very cool.
