Petrified wood or a weird piece of Coprolite ?

was out looking today found several ... I found this reddish stone and decided to look at it closer

are those seeds in it?...or something else?....and it looks like it has veins in it.... is it petrified wood or some type of coprolite?

Tue Sep 18 15-16-55 shows the blood veins looking markings best...they run all through the stone. I am rather new to all this and I must say it is like a scavenger hunt!

Jasper, I think.

The darker bits could be haematite which is often formed alongside/ with  jasper.

Sorry not a fossil. I think it is Brecciated red jasper. The red color is due to iron inclusions. Here's a pic of a tumbled piece and it appears to have veins like yours.

is jasper known for having foreign bodies in it? the veins in my piece do not look like fractures like the above jasper. If this is jasper it is an odd stone will keep it and see if I find others.

found another but this one has less of the red and is darker same looks like a small piece of raw meat.. have poor lighting here at the moment but will get pics of the new piece in morning.. here are the extreme close ups of the new one. I work with stones as I wire wrap but I don't have any jasper with particles in it like these do...now I have found jasper on my hunts that look like the example someone had shown above...so was thinking could these two stones be some sort of sediment?

Yes, it is common to have inclusions in jasper.

Also common, and the "veins" can look quite different from piece to piece.

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Petrified wood or a weird piece of Coprolite ?

From the condition of the pieces, I would say they are coming from an alluvial deposit.

But the jasper is not a sedimentary rock.

May not be a fossil, but they are beautiful pieces nonetheless.

Would look real nice polished.
