Egg Mold from Jordan

Abed H.

Recommended Posts

hello, I found this egg mold close to my house, there were an excavation, i found it in the dirt they bulldozed away.

(it wasn't broken when i first found it, it fell by mistake).

from the other side it's just a normal orange-ish sedimentary stone(i don't have enough media MBs left).

And, I see these orange lines in the bottom of the stone too often on other stones i want to know what they are.

thank you.

You can always add more pictures in the reply to topic.

The rust color is caused by iron oxides in the rock.

The shape is a coincidental shape. Not a fossil in this one.

The egg shape is not perfect.

It has ridges and bumps and the outline is slightly uneven.

And it doesn't seem to continue through the rock suggesting it is an erosional feature with iron staining as Tony suggested.

We often see what we want to see, it's natural to try and relate objects to what we know.

It seems likely that weathering/hydration may have played a roll.
