I am thinking this is some sort of sealife?..perhaps a sponge? ...or corral?

I would rule out coral.

I agree with Hans. Not a coral, but the spongy structure leads me in two direction: sponge or bone. I'm inclined to believe it is bone with trabecular structure.

The geologic period, formation and general location where it was found is important in helping determine ID. Some formations may have both terrestrial and marine environments or exclusively one or the other.

Location could rule out sponge or bone.

Also, other fossils found in the immediate area are very good clues too.

Are you able to provide any of that info?
