Sculpture Venture

Recommended Posts

In the next week I have some time off work and i've been thinking about having a go at making a clay sculpture. Still undecided what subject matter to use.

Doren has given me some helpful advice: an obscure creature from the ancient past, or a transitional animal, both great suggestions, but i'm still open to more specific ideas.

So, please post me some images of the weird and wonderful.

My clay is ready to go on Monday, and I will post some pictures of what I end up making however it turns out, even if it looks like my dog has made it. :D

How about one of the spiny trilobites?

Oh sure, give him an easy one for the first time out.

It's important to understand your material, in this case modeling clay. If it's oil based you will have endless fun. Whichever it is, I'm curious to see your efforts. :fingerscrossed:

You could not be more right, good advice. I never made a clay sculpture before. I have given myself a week to make something. It is just for fun , it is good to challenge your stills from time to time. Please if you get a chance and a couple of images of the weird and wonderful creatures of the fossil record.

Thanks Bobby

I like the ammonite idea as well.

You could do one of my brain, but then you'd be getting into micro sculpturing.

You sir, are very talented!

Are you serious that you have never sculpted in clay before?  It is an amazing start!

I am struggling with it . I have never worked  in 3D before and symmetry is a problem. Thanks Walt it will be better when I add more bags under the eyes. :)

I managed to do a couple of more hours today. The creature features are starting to work . They not right yet but work better. Any guesses ?

So You are crafting a creature and want someone to identify what it is.?

And when someone can see a particular critter, that will be what "You are making"? Right?
