Nevada, Fernley area possible petrified wood

The 2nd pic is definitely an iron concretion. But that could be pet wood weathering out of it.

The others could be a mixture of iron concretion and pet wood. I have some iron concretions that are clearly pet wood.

I also have found pet wood weathering out of iron stone or iron concretions. In this instance the wood was Eocene in age and almost looked like modern pine.

Are #1, 3 and 4 all the same piece? They kind of look like it.

I’ve collected opalized wood in Nevada and your last photo look very much like what I’ve found. The cracks running through it are the same. Wood opal is very brittle.

I agree with Al Dente, but would add that it could also be a non fossil deposit of opalite which is common in the Ferely area.

The rougher reddish area is the matrix. Can You see any wood grain in the lighter areas?

No wood grain or rings like in Petrified Wood and it is like glass. The surface is rough like the 4 photos I posted, and the inside is one or multiple colors surrounded by a band of black or gray like the last photo. Thank you.

Not all petrified wood retains the wood structure. Opal is a very "glass" like rock.

In this case I think You have a non fossil piece of opalite.
