FOSSIL or ARTIFACT?

I found this in a fossil bed along with some clam fossils I was finding near Globe, Arizona. It was sitting in a depression on the ground near an exposed limestone fossil rift. The white band goes all the way around symmetrically and the rock type does not match anything in the area. is it a fossilized turtle shell, or nut maybe? or an indian artifact, or just an out of place rock?

I'm going with neither on this piece. I'm seeing something geologic, weathered, with no organic origin.

Welcome to the Forum. Show us some of your clam fossils. Are they from the Pennsylvanian Naco Formation?

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.

I'd wager that the filling is more durable than the cookie on this one.

So after some more digging and talking with some archaeologist buddies they have determined it is an apache indian game stone. here is another one I found that someone is selling online. so not a tool or useful artifact but one used in an assortment of games for fun.

Just out of curiosity, what features were used to make the determination of "apache indian game stone"?

I have never heard of or seen any artifacts like this.

If I compare the specimens posted above with those called "Moqui marbles" , I can see a good resemblance, especially the equatorial feature may be interesting. Not  fossils , but " objects that occur naturally, without any human intervention" (Aristotélēs and his contemporary descendants). :)
