North Sulphur River - Weird Finds

Recommended Posts

Some of my odder finds from North Sulphur River. The pyritized baculite and the preserved skin were both found in the Ladonia area. The baculite was initially powdery white on the exterior, with just a bit of metallic luster showering. A light scrub with a soft toothbrush revealed the rest. The skin appears reptilian, but I would love further insights. 20180317_220208.thumb.jpg.392e132b4d6183a4b5e510c064747790.jpg20180317_220121.thumb.jpg.e08bd4cec2785e630f90cdf23beec312.jpg20181011_210452.thumb.jpg.f7e532d13fb27e3441e443cc3308f4d4.jpg20181011_210529.thumb.jpg.21c1aa1d1c88bc95dbd884b18e10799c.jpg20181011_210703.thumb.jpg.9b0c83bb2817170c2e111a8c4f6742e8.jpg

I took the liberty of brightening and cropping
a few of your "skin" photos.

Definitely odd.

The pattern is really quite regular. Almost looks man-made.

Must be. It's neither geologic nor biologic.
I bet a magnet sticks to it.

Yep. Just tried. A magnet does attract to the metallic outer edges, though not the odd patterned stuff in the center. It may very well be a piece of river trash. Though an odd piece for sure. Still curious what it came from, or what its purpose was, if manmade.
