Recommended Posts

Hi all please and thank you, how do I prep Micro Matrix. The seller I purchased this of is not given out any of the trade secrets. A lot of the little jaw a bones I have seen on the net are brown in colour but mine are white. Any ideas in how to archive this. @caldigger @ynot @Ptychodus04

Thank you all for looking

I think the difference in color is site dependent.

As for cleaning them- Marco sr. has said He uses a sonic cleaner.

Thank you . Your probably correct but a sonic cleaner sounds very Dr Who .   :D

I agree with @ynot, the color is preservation difference. The darker ones I have seen have been from Oklahoma. The ultrasonic cleaners work very well. A friend of mine has one that we use for cleaning little pieces and it was just a cheapo unit made for cleaning even cheaper jewelry.

If you want some of the darker specimens, send me a PM, I have a few fragments that are along the size of what you have pictured that I could send you.

the dark ones look like conodont elements to me if they are less than 1/4 ", other wise I don't know.. I do not believe the white ones are jaws.

for some micro tips try my posts { how to collect microfossils with out breaking the bank, pt 1 and 2)

Don,t know. What age are they supposed to be?  The dark could be tiny jaws. How small are they? Conodonts are about 1 to 2 mm long

The tiny little white teeth are probably from Captorhinus magnus or C. aguti  . Sorry for any confusion and thank you all for trying to help me.

They look like the C. aguti I have from Oklahoma.
