Recker
I came across this fossil while I was looking for arrowheads on the Whitewater river. Thinking that it is a coral? But would love to know more about it. Thank you all so much! Linda
Herb
looks like the Ordovician colonial coral Favosites sp. 1 "Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence"_ Carl Sagen No trees were killed in this posting......however, many innocent electrons were diverted from where they originally intended to go. FossilDAWG
Well, it's some variety of colonial tabulate coral for sure. Favosites is one likely possibility, though there are others. The genus Favosites ranged from the Silurian through the middle Devonian. As far as I know, in North America the Upper Ordovician favositids are Paleofavosites, which differ from Favosites in details of wall microstructure such as mural pores in the corners of the corallites (Paleofavosites) vs in the middle of the corallite walls (Favosites). Without a thin section I can't tell which one you have. Don

mikeymig
It is a Favosities fossil tabulate coral and its in Onondaga chert. The age is upper Lower Devonian - lower Middle Devonian. 1 Many times I've wondered how much there is to know. led zeppelin
