North Sulphur River ID Help

Recommended Posts

Today my husband and I took our first trip to the North Sulphur River at Ladonia, TX.  We were able to search for a few hours before the heavy rain moved in.  Here are some of the finds that stood out the most to us.  We are newbies and would appreciate any help identifying what we have.  I will be posting several pictures in this thread. Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure what these are but my husband picked them out of the side of the bank in an area that is like the clay in this pic with the waterfall but about 20 feet away from the waterfall and just above the red clay line.

Both of these are bone most likely rib fragments.

It's clear that in this cropped picture are cephalopod suture lines. :)

Black piece on the far right is definitely interesting. Post more pics of it if you can.

First few pics are mastodon tooth enamel.

Wow, that's pretty cool! Is that a fairly common find at NSR?

If you haven't already join up on the Dallas paleontological society Facebook page. A lot of NSR experts there.

Several good id's so far. Bacculite is nice and I concur with the above post that the thin pieces look like they might be rib. You're brave to venture down in there with all this rain, that sucker fills up quick

They seem to be fossilized as they are very heavy and make the ting sound that I've seen people talk about.

Not common, but not unheard of either
