Innocentx
All the beauty you see against the blue sky is a story of time from the book of rocks, uplifting, cleaving, and eroding in wonderful ways. I searched and got this Socorro County geologic map. A rather immense amount of study involved in this document. Best at 175% zoom. If I lived there all the time I might come to understand it. https://geoinfo.nmt.edu/publications/openfile/downloads/200-299/238/ofr_238.pdf
Innocentx
I also got to see some fairly fresh lava flows at 5 to 10 thousand years old, at Carrizozo Malpais. https://geoinfo.nmt.edu/tour/landmarks/carrizozo/how_formed.html

Innocentx
The rocks here are absolute eye candy. I'm trying to learn the different kinds. This reminds me of cone-in-cone except they're square.

Wrangellian
Nice photos! How do you get the sky so blue? With my camera, either the sky is nice and blue but the land is underexposed, or the land is nicely exposed but the sky is washed out. Seems to be a fine line...
Innocentx
Thanks @Walt and @Wrangellian It takes some work to get it right between the land and sky but NM panoramas are too beautiful already.

ynot
Wonderful landscape and rock pictures! I have a great fondness for that area. Did You get around Magdalina area? The crystalline piece looks like selenite or calcite. Check hardness, and cleavage.

The short grass in these high valleys is such an interesting thing to come across and reminded me of these same type places I've been to in Colorado. One ranch in particular stuck out as the owner had obviously taken great care of his place. The grass actually had some size to it where as most others were over grazed. That's where we saw the antelope. We took a map that showed which parts were privately owned and which were BLM (public lands), so we didn't get in trouble trespassing.
