Obx bone

The location is North Carolina along the Atlantic. Sea turtle would make sense

I do not think it is turtle. Unfortunately it looks like a chunk of unidentifiable bone. But, I could be wrong. 

 

As far as the location, most people on the forum would have absolutely no idea what OBX means. To me as a North Carolinian, it is the touristy moniker given to the Northern outer banks of North Carolina, this includes the area from Hatteras Island in the south all the way up to where the road ends beyond Corolla, the end of Hwy. 12. That's a lot of beach.

so 'OBX' refers to only the NORTHERN half of the outer banks?  What about the southern half.

The window stickers say SOBX.  From the Virginia line to Hatteras island is the outer banks of tradition. To locals the northern outer banks. Ocracoke island, Core Banks, Cape lookout and Bogue banks the central outer banks topsail island south through Wilmington area to the SC state line is the southern outer banks. This includes wrightsville beach Carolina beach oak island and places to the south.

thanks.  So, my in-laws are on Ocean Isle Beach.  I think that is too far south to be OBX of any kind?

Ocean Isle Beach would be considered part of the southern outer banks. Barrier Islands run the entire length of the NC coast.

But most of the towns along the southern banks do not call the area SOBX

Lived in nc my whole life and never knew we separated the southern outer banks lol but the big bone chunk looks like many found about the eastern nc area which are usually very hard to id if at all possible but still a cool find!

Thanks for all the information about the bone.  The tourist that I am  used the abbreviation to make it easier to look up if necessary.  I’m not sure that  it  would have made a difference if I would have stated Outer Banks.  I didn’t know there was such a division between the north and south. Next time l visit I will look for the NOBX sticker.  Thanks mike

That's weird, somebody put a sticker on my window that just says: SOB.

 I wonder what area that stands for?
