Hi there,   Hoping someone might tell me what species of shark this might be.  Found on NC coast this weekend.   Thanks so much!

Pretty worn, could be large mako or meg , could you take pics without any shadow?

I like Trilo-butts and I cannot lie.

Seeing that the tooth appears to be quite convex and the serrations fine, I would think it's Carcharocles spp., either a meg, angu, or chub.

If you're a fossil nut from Palos Verdes, San Pedro, Redondo Beach, or Torrance, feel free to shoot me a PM!

Thanks so much Darktooth and Macrophyseter.  I really appreciate it.  I will see if I can take better pics but agree it is a bit worn.  Looks a bit more narrow than the typical meg tooth you see posted everywhere but the serrations are very fine. Thanks very much!

looks like auriculatis but guess it could be angustidens. If you found it in New Hanover or Brunswick County I'd say auriculatis. If you found it in Pender or Onslow I'd say there's a better chance of it being angustidens. The shape favors auriculatis.

Absolutely. I agree 100% with Plax's thoughts on this tooth. Knowing the formations present in the area's mentioned.

@Sandpiper giving a location when asking for an ID can make a huge difference in what the item could be. Especially here in coastal North Carolina where there are so many different ages represented.

Then I would say it is Otodus auriculatus.
