Hi guys,

I was wondering is this Spinosaurid with a root real? Seller state it has some restoration.

I am curious about your opinions!

  • Fossildude19 changed the title to Is it a real Spinosaurid tooth with root?

Agreed with the others, the root looks very fake.

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).

Sorry, but + 4 for fake root (composite).

Is It real, or it's not real, that's the question!

There's definitely some real parts in that root. But it's been smudged with stuff all over so from these photos it's kinda impossible to tell how much is fake or real.

Nothing to be sorry for guys! The tooth is not mine. But I am surprised every one things it is fake because it is so different then the normal fakes (below)

It looks much more like these teeth from Troodon. It had clearly some restoration to the root but I am not convinced it is totally fake like every one except LordTrilobite is saying.

Because of which characteristics you guys determine it is a fake?

That's definitely a composite. It's just way too long. Both the crown and bottom of the root seem real, but there's a load of filler material in between to make it longer.
