Welcome to the Forum from sunny Florida! What is the dimensions and location found? Does it feel like wood or rock?

In my opinion a cross section of a fragment of a cephalopod orthocone.

the oval shapes in a row are the siphuncle.

 

 

growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional.

Now we need to figure out how a paleozoic fossil ended up in Florida.

My goal is to leave no stone or fossil unturned.

The OP appears to be from Arkansas, so lots of paleozoic to choose from if found there.

I just saw the tags, saying this was "carcharodon florida". ???

OP may need to contribute more than a single photo, and more information regarding the finding of it.

Isn't the law that the old have to move to Florida? Paleozoic isn't young... :D

Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.

Hello everyone and thanks so much. The fossil is from Arkansas. I apologise for my ignorance. I didn't know what to use for tags so I picked from examples. So yes found in AR and here are more pics.

I don't know about rare but the one you have is mighty nice!!

If you want to know how old it is, pinpoint the location on this interactive map and check the legend for period/age.
