Dadak
I found a tooth on the beach, but I am unable to identify the animal to which it belonged to. It has a width of about 1.5inches, so it is fairly large. Anyone who tries to identify it, your help will be much appreciated.
Praefectus
Could you post a picture of the tooth?
daves64
I think that may be a shell, not a tooth. Accomplishing the impossible means only that the boss will add it to your regular duties.
Fossildude19
Definitely a piece of a shell. Not a tooth. Misha
Doesn't really look like a tooth, more like tumbled rock or shell fragment. Where was it found?
Dadak
It's definitely not a shell, look at this image. It may be a rock, but this part looks like that part of a tooth where it is attached to the jaw.

You can also try to test hardness with a piece of glass, or put it in acid to see if it fizzes.
Max-fossils
Welcome to TFF! It's an oyster piece unfortunately... A very worn-out piece. Second picture is a typical example of a sea-worn hinge piece. Oysters can have the craziest shapes, but their hinges are always very recognizable. Sorry but it's most likely an insignificant find Keep looking, we'd love to see some Indian fossils! Max Derème "I feel an echo of the lightning each time I find a fossil. The growth lines, however, are pretty consistent with shell material.
