Agree with ynot. I've seen alot of look alikes in the Brazos. Probably weathered out of Cretaceous carbonates up river.

This looks pretty organized, and lines continue through the piece in worn areas.

I have been looking up insect pupa as it does resemble a cocoon of some type but that may be a far fetched idea and it still may just be a foss-not piece of banded agate?

Looks like differential weathering of banded rock.  Pics in sunlight might show any translucency or other features.

It looks banded chert, flint, or similar (silex) rock with a silica-rich core darker than the cortex. There are similar examples here  in painshill's response.

I'm wondering why the dissipative patterns may have a similar look?

Very cool how these patterns are revealed by weathering. Quite special.

I do not see a coprolite in Your piece.

The grain size is to coarse and the banding is not spiraled.

But let's see what @GeschWhat and @Carl think.

if you look at the back side it is kinda spiraled it actually looks wrapped.

first two are mine the others from the net... the criss cross pattern on the fat end could be erosion and is a bit pattern like so still in the dark of its true origin untill further evidence is found ...still looking.

Can You follow the ridges all the way around the object to see if they are in a spiral or concentric rings?

I still do not see more than a vague resemblance to a spiral coprolite, but wait for the tagged members to give their opinions.

At the Gitche Gumee Agate and History Museum, the Mineral of the Month for March 2017 was chert...a few pictured there have similarities with your piece.
