Trilobite - Morocco

I picked this up at a market stall in Fes this week. No information other than it is from South of me in Morocco.

Because I thought it was sweet and it has a cracking bryozoan around the eyes (which are sadly broken)

I think it looks like Devonian matrix and is a Phacopid?

Phacops speculator?

It is about 6 cm long. (straight line, not including the curve over)

And anyone got any ideas re the bryozoa?

I believe I remember @piranha said this wasn't a valid name. I could be wrong, but thats why I tagged him to clear this up. But, it does look phacopid to me. Im sure he can give you better information than I.

Edit: Regarding the bryazoa, I think its just the matrix that formed to the morphology of the trilobite then eroded giving it that texture.

...I'm back.

He's usually right!

And I'm years out of date.

It could now be Austerops speculator, but is this species recognized from Morocco?

Thanks, mate.

Yes, the type material from Alberti 1970 is from the Middle Devonian near Sidi Abdallah des Rehamna, western Morocco.

Unfortunately without counting the eye lenses, the preservation does not allow for a specific ID beyond Phacopidae indet.

Splendid! :)

Thank you, precise and informative as always.

And it's the bryozoan that fascinates me here, though the trilo is nice,( minus the eyes).

Those are patches of eroded integument with tubercles.  The same process is observable to a lesser degree on the right cheek.
