Psittacosaurus skull or just a rock?

Recommended Posts

Was just looking through online, and found this item. Now, to me at least, I cannot see if this is just a regular rock. There seems to be some sort of honey-cone (bone) structure in some places, but I just cannot see how this is a real deal psittacosaurus skull. Seems a little too good to be true.

What are your opinions guys?

This is just a rock with a suggestive shape. No bone structure or any details you'd expect from a real skull. I think this rock has been posted on the forum before though.

Aye, that was my first thought. There are a couple of holes that "could" look like bone structure up by the big hole in the rock. But that's it. Otherwise it just looks like some random rock anyone could find by the beach.

Looks like a piece of an agate vein, not a fossil of any kind.

(But not "Just a rock"!):D

I don't know much about different minerals and such, so that's pretty useful! :)

Well, that's almost ok. They just have no idea and possibly too much imagination, but the people who sell stones as fossils against better knowledge make me furious.

Be not ashamed of mistakes and thus make them crimes (Confucius, 551 BC - 479 BC).

The intention was to make clear, that this is not a fossil at all.

If the rock contains agate veins, let it be like that :D:dinothumb:

Looking at a picture in Wikipedia, I don't see any similarities, especially the big eye sockets. Also I found a fossilized skull photo from National Geographic which gives you a good idea what it could look like.

I messaged the seller before, I believe he didn’t respond. I can’t even remember how many of these sellers selling supposed “complete dino skulls” I have come across and messaged. I even reported a few. Be very wary with complete dino skulls and I recommend you to ask TFF if it catches your eye.

Life started in the ocean. And so did my interest in fossils;).
