Going off what he said, there are plenty of sites in the great state of Texas to find fossils and many friendly forum members who would be happy to inform you about them! Though I've not yet been, Texas is certainly on my list of places to go fossil hunt.

I agree, but there might be conical forms included in the matrix, like the rudists from the Edwards Plateau.
